Our research group employs materials-by-design and transformative manufacturing techniques to investigate the processing-structure-property relationships in advanced materials, including multiferroics, metals, ceramics, and composites. We focus on designing novel material precursors from the atomic and molecular level upward, encompassing areas such as multiferroics via molecular engineering, extreme-environment metal alloys and ceramics through organometallic chemistry and lattice/defect engineering. Our work spans the design, processing, and characterization of these emerging materials, with a strong emphasis on fundamental and basic research that facilitates technology transfer and supports large-scale production and impactful solutions. Key areas of investigation include light-matter interactions, energy transduction in multiferroics, advanced materials and electronics for extreme environments, and sustainable thermal management materials.
